Saturday night in Geraldton will be ‘Jeremy’s night at the Buccs’.
Anyone who can attend is welcome at the Geraldton Stadium this Saturday night. Jeremy Morgan, aged 25, is a shooting guard with local club Hawks. He has always had a burning ambition to play with the Buccs, ever since he distributed his first water bottles to the players in 1989, however, it hasn’t always been easy to attend training sessions. Chemotherapy has that affect on people and has even prevented the leaping 5’6″ guard from ever dunking the ball.
Jeremy has had to play by the same rules as all Buccs players (no train, no play), but this year he has attended a couple of training sessions and feels he is ready to don the Blue and Gold. He has scored mercilessly on Greg in one on one sessions and feels that scoring in a real game is nothing more than ‘the next step’.
The Buccs have brought the # 7 out of mothballs and Jeremy is ready to wear it on Saturday night. He has been officially named the 11th player in Saturdays team and will pit himself against the might of the Cin Cin Hawks. I understand John Gardiner has prepared special defensive tactics to stop Jeremy but if you are there on Saturday night, you may be surprised to see just how easily Jeremy penetrates the best the Hawks have to offer.
On Saturday night, Jeremy will be given an opportunity to do something that he never dreamt was possible. Score a basket for the Buccs. It is now up to Jeremy and we will all be watching to see if he can achieve his dream.
To help pysch Jeremy up for the big game, CanTeen (TEENagers with CANcer) has provided 400 CanTeen Bandanas for us to sell on the night and we have 200 more available should they sell out. It will be a wonderful sight to see a packed house of Bandana wearing supporters. Jeremy has always been a strong supporter of CanTeen and has raised endless funds for their Camps, which he attends as a helper.
The Buccs wish Jeremy every success in his endeavours on Saturday night and in the long hard fight ahead of him that he and we are very confident he can beat.
The Buccs also thank the Perry Lakes ‘Cin Cin Hawks’ for the unquestionable co-operation they have offered for the night. They also thank the Referees (who should look resplendent in their CanTeen Bandanas) for looking at their feet rather than the game, when the time arises. For those purists out there. Don’t worry. The game will be played with the respect it deserves.
